Kellan Carney and Anna Kassmeier were named Norfolk Catholic homecoming king and queen in September. Kellan is the son of Pat and Elissa Carney, and Anna is the daughter of David and Tina Kassmeier.

The U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools program is seeking nominations for its 2019-2020 awards. The deadline for submitting applications is Jan. 24, 2020.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Molly McNally of Norfolk was recently awarded the SCO Honors Endowed Scholarship at Southern College of Optometry.

Imagine Now! STEAM and Nebraska Extension (I.N.S.A.N.E.) event provided a unique hands-on learning experience for 447 youth from three counties in Northeast Nebraska at the Madison County Fairgrounds in Madison on earlier this week.

The Norfolk campus of Northeast Community College was filled with the sound of music earlier this week as a number of the region’s top high school musicians and vocalists had the opportunity to participate in an honors program through the institution’s music department.

Following this year’s Madison County 4-H theme, “4-H Makes Tomorrow’s Leaders,” the 2019 4-H Achievement ceremony recognized the leaders of the future and current volunteers. The ceremony was Oct. 13 at the Madison County Fairgrounds.

OMAHA — Eighty-two high school students from 44 high schools in Nebraska are being recognized in this year’s youth salute sponsored by the Greater Omaha-Council Bluffs Area Council on Youth Leadership.

LINCOLN — Nebraska’s most talented high school musicians and vocalists will be featured in an upcoming television special on the NET, Nebraska’s PBS & NPR Stations.

ALBION — Boone Central’s after-school program, Cardinal Kids Club, is hosting an open house on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. This open house is meant to showcase the program to local organizations and community members.

Breanna Bartak and Conor Ramold were recently crowned homecoming king and queen at Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School in Elgin. Breanna is the daughter of Gary and Mary Bartak of Ewing, and Conor is the son of Nick and Beth Ramold of Neligh.

Area 4-H members competed in the Giant Pumpkin Growing Contest on Oct. 13, which marked the end of the National 4-H Week festivities. In April, 4-Hers who pre-registered were given seeds to grow Atlantic Giant pumpkins. During the fair, they could enter a progress report. The finale was the …

WAYNE — State Nebraska Bank & Trust and Wayne Elementary School have joined efforts to offer an in-school savings program for students called the SNB Blue Devil Branch. With parental permission, students in kindergarten thru 6th grade will be able to open a savings account at school.

According to the Nebraska Department of Education accountability and support system AQuESTT (Accountability for a Quality Education System, Today and Tomorrow), Norfolk Public Schools has been classified as “good” for the 2019-20 school year.

Ardith Ramirez and Baden Luna were recently crowned Norfolk High School’s Homecoming King and Queen. Arleth is the daughter of Amalia Aguilar and Enrique Ramirez, and Baden is the son of Andrea and Joseph Luna.

Lexi Rajaee is a seventh grader at Norfolk Junior High. Students were given a choice of what they wanted to draw, and they could choose the materials they wanted to use to finish their work.

Jaxson Kant, son of Max and Ann Kant, and Macee Goehmann, daughter of the Rev. David and Heidi Goehmann, were recently crowned homecoming king and queen at Lutheran High Northeast.
