Two exciting contests highlight 36th annual Northeast Nebraska All-Star Basketball Games

The 36th Annual Northeast Nebraska All-Star Basketball Games were held Friday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. 

In the boys contest, the ‘Dark’ topped the ‘Light’ 85-80.  Hartington Cedar Catholic’s Matthew Becker scored 19 points with six rebounds and teammate Cole Belitz of Neligh/Oakdale added 17 points, five boards, and two steals to the ‘Dark’ team’s win.  Belitz knocked down three of the team’s nine three-pointers on the evening.  The ‘Light’ was paced by O’Neill’s Francisco Perez’ 14 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Teammate Blake Hoke of Clearwater/Orchard added twelve points and six boards and North Bend Central's Tanner Wietfeld had nine points and twelve rebounds.  The ‘Dark’ led at halftime 50-40.  Becker and Perez were named the Fred Letheby MVPs.  In the girls game, the ‘Light’ outlasted the ‘Dark’ 95-86 in overtime.  Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family’s Taya Bellar led six players in double figures for the ‘Light’ with 19 points, twelve boards, six blocked shots, and three steals.  Ponca’s Taylor Lamprecht paced the ‘Dark’ by leading four players in double figures with 14 points and eight rebounds.  The ‘Light’ led 46-37 at halftime and the game was tied at the end of regulation at 83.  There were 22 combined three-pointers in the contest.  Bellar & Lamprecht were named the Fred Letheby MVPs.
