Highway 24 accident

STANTON - A Norfolk man was killed Monday morning as the result of a two vehicle accident.

According to Sheriff Mike Unger, the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to the accident on Highway 24 about two miles East of Norfolk.

Unger says the accident occurred when a westbound pickup driven by 19-year-old Ried Krutz of Stanton crossed the center line for yet unknown reasons and collided nearly head on with an eastbound SUV driven by 63-year-old Jim Hoff of Norfolk.

Hoff was pronounced dead at the scene and Krutz was extricated from his wreckage by Stanton and Norfolk Fire and then transported to Faith Regional Health Services in critical condition.

Unger added Krutz’s pickup did roll after the collision and both vehicles came to a rest in the south ditch.

Seatbelts were not in use by either party and airbags did deploy.

Highway 24 was closed for about 2 ½ hours as the scene was investigated and cleared.

An autopsy has been ordered on Hoff and will be undertaken Tuesday in Omaha.

The investigation is being continued by the Sheriff’s office.

Stanton County Emergency Management also assisted at the scene with traffic control.
