LINCOLN — Hartington Cedar Catholic and Fremont Archbishop Bergan Catholic squared off in the Class D1 consolation game of the Nebraska State Girls Basketball Championships here at Ed Johnson Gym at Lincoln Northeast High School, with Bergan winning 40-31.

LINCOLN — The Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur Northeast Wolverines capped their season off with a gutsy win over the Bridgeport Bulldogs, 47-40, in the Class C2 consolation game at Lincoln Northeast on Friday.

LINCOLN — Wynot dropped the Class D2 girls consolation game here Friday morning at Ed Johnson Gym at Lincoln Northeast High School to Mullen 30-28.

LINCOLN — The clock struck midnight on Winnebago’s Cinderella story Friday morning after North Bend Central defeated the Indians 60-40 in the semifinals of the Class C1 girls state tournament at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

LINCOLN — After falling behind early, Ponca blew by Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur Northeast to grab a spot in Saturday’s finals of the Class C2 Nebraska Girls State Basketball Tournament at Pinnacle Bank Arena here Thursday night with a 55-37 win.

LINCOLN — Crofton earned a chance to compete for its ninth state championship after a convincing victory over Bridgeport in the semifinals of the Class C2 state tournament on Thursday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

LINCOLN — The No. 2 Weeping Water Indians came out on top in a 51-50 overtime thriller against the No. 3 Hartington Cedar Catholic Trojans in the semifinal of the Class D1 Nebraska girls state basketball tournament Thursday.

LINCOLN — A couple of familiar foes got together late Thursday morning for what seems to be their annual date in Lincoln at the Class D2 girls state basketball tournament here.

LINCOLN — Cedar Catholic’s Brynn Wortmann was on fire early, and it was enough to secure them their 46-37 victory over South Platte in the opening round of the girls state basketball tournament. 

LINCOLN — Sixth-seeded Ponca used a 17-2 run in the second quarter to pull away and then stretched the lead in the second half for a 59-45 victory over Guardian Angels Central Catholic in the opening round of the Class C2 state tournament at Lincoln Southeast.

LINCOLN — Class C2 of the girls state basketball tournament had its first upset of the bracket when the No. 7 seed Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur Wolverines upended the No. 2 seed Wood River Eagles 62-41 in the quarterfinals at Lincoln Southeast on Wednesday.

LINCOLN — North Bend Central certainly looked the part of a defending state champion on Wednesday afternoon in the Class C1 quarterfinals at Pinnacle Bank Arena when it overwhelmed Broken Bow 50-29.

LINCOLN — The No. 4 Archbishop Bergan girls found themselves at the free throw line often and took advantage of those free opportunities in a 50-42 victory over No. 5 Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the opening round of the Class D1 state tournament.

LINCOLN — Perennial power Crofton flexed its muscle and state tournament experience with a surprisingly easy 62-37 win over Centennial in the opening round of the Class C2 bracket of the girls state tournament at Lincoln Southeast.

The Northeast Community College softball team saw its season end last year just 10 games into the schedule, just when Hawks coach Iris Woodhead believed she was seeing evidence that her team was displaying improvement in its accountability and competitiveness.
