Hy-Vee, Inc., in partnership with Variety — the Children’s Charity, a national charitable organization that improves the lives of children in need, announced today that proceeds from its Petals for Pedals fundraising event will provide a bike to a local child in need. As part of Hormel Foods’ Spread the Smiles campaign, Hy-Vee and Hormel Foods partnered to donate 1,000 16-ounce jars of Skippy peanut butter to the Orphan Grain Train in Norfolk. The donation is part of a hunger program created by the makers of Skippy peanut butter in 2018. Earlier this year, Hy-Vee participated in a sales promotion with Skippy, and as a result was provided more than 11,000 pounds of peanut butter to be distributed to food banks in 11 different communities throughout its eight-state region. What was contributed? A preservation grant was awarded the the Elkhorn Valley Museum, which will fund several structural repairs to the Dederman Cabin. The Dederman Cabin, named for its builder and original inhabitant Frederick Dederman, is the oldest building in Norfolk, constructed during the area’s first wave of German settlers in the late 1860s. Now part of the Elkhorn Valley Museum collection, the museum seeks to preserve the structure, and the North Fork Questers Chapter of the National Questers Organization feel just as passionately about that endeavor.
