Duane Gordon Stelling, son of Chris and Erna (Eggen) Stelling, was born March 7, 1930, in Orchard. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Orchard. Duane attended and graduated from Orchard High School in 1947.
On Aug. 14, 1949, Duane was united in marriage to Violet Auman. They were married at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. God blessed this family with two sons, Timothy and Mark. Duane and Violet were blessed to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in 2009.
After farming in the Orchard community, Duane and Violet moved their family to Bloomfield, where they operated a successful dairy operation and cattle farm. Dairy was in Duane’s blood. In 1950, a year after they were married, Duane and Violet established their dairy herd with the purchase of three bred Holstein heifers from Wisconsin. One of his proudest accomplishments was being named by the Nebraska Dairyman’s Association as recipient of its state distinguished dairyman award in 1982.
Following the dispersal of the dairy cows in 2000, Duane continued to farm and feed cattle, participating in the daily operation until his health prevented him.
Duane served on the Harrison Township Board and Nebraska Dairy Association. He used his God given talents to the glory of God and was actively involved in his church, serving on various committees at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield.
Duane departed this life on Monday, March 26, 2018.
