David Willats

ORCHARD — Services for David Willats, 91, rural Orchard, will be Monday, Jan 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Cornerstone Bible Church in Orchard. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.

Ashburn Funeral Home in Orchard is in charge of arrangements.

He died on Thursday Jan. 23, 2020.


David Lloyd George Willats was born to Robert and Florence (Moore) Willats on May 9, 1928, in Orchard.

He graduated from Orchard High School in 1945. He was a veteran of the Korean war. He married Dixie Lea Stevens on Nov. 17, 1956. To this union were born four children, two daughters and two sons.

David was a rancher/farmer all his life. He was active in the community, serving on the Orchard school board. He was a chairman for Antelope Mutual Insurance Company and on the weed board for 28 years. David was a founding member of Orchard Evangelical Free Church and served as a Gideon most of his life. David was a founding member of Ashfall Fossil Bed.

David went to be with the Lord on Jan 23, 2020. He will be remembered for his love of the land. He spent his final years in his side by side observing activities on the farm.

David is survived by his children: Marjorie (Charles) Cook of Verdigre, Linda (Howard) Dashiell of Potter Valley, Calif., and Bob (Vicki) Willats of Orchard. Also surviving are brothers Dale Willats of Erie, Pa., and Donald Willats of Scottsbluff; and many grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie; a son, William; sister Annie Marshall; brother Earl Willats; and his parents.

NORFOLK — Services for Lois M. Brugger, 82, Council Bluffs, formerly of Norfolk, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

WISNER — Memorial services for Niels C. Sorensen, 103, Pilger, will be at a later under the direction of Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner. He died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020, at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk.

NORFOLK — Services for Dorothy Maurer, 95, Norfolk, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Norfolk. The Rev. Robert Wiest will officiate. Burial will be in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Cemetery south of Meadow Grove.

NORFOLK — Services for Helen E. Frank, 82, Norfolk, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk. The Rev. David Goehmann will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk.

PILGER — Services for Norman Peterson, 87, Pilger, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 2, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pilger. Deb Hammer will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Pilger Cemetery.

O’NEILL — Memorial services for Marguerite J. Tjessem, 94, Burwell, formerly of O’Neill, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, at the Assembly of God Church in O’Neill. Burial will follow in the O’Neill Cemetery. The Rev. Mike Durre will officiate.
