A 60-year-old Hoskins man was killed early Monday morning as the result of a workplace accident at the Vulcraft Nebraska joist and decking plant in Norfolk.

Madison County Attorney Joe Smith, who also serves as the county coroner, said the accident occurred resulted in the death of John Gallop Jr.

No other persons were injured.

Jason Smith, general manager of Vulcraft, said, “On behalf of all our Vulcraft teammates, I want to express my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of John Gallop. We are deeply saddened by this event.”

An investigation into the accident is being conducted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

The facility suspended operations and is working with federal, state and local agencies regarding the incident.

Gallop had worked at Vulcraft Nebraska for 39 years. Family members of the deceased were notified Monday morning by law enforcement representatives.

The company will have members of its employee assistance program available to meet with Vulcraft Nebraska teammates, Smith said.

Vulcraft Nebraska, a division of Nucor Corporation, started operations in 1964 and produces joists, joist girders, composite floor joists, and floor and roof deck. The facility employs approximately 400 teammates in Norfolk.

The funeral for Gallop has been set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at Peace Evangelical Church in rural Norfolk. The Rev. Clark Jenkinson will officiate.  Burial will be in Spring Branch Cemetery in rural Norfolk.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
