Soldiers,
Young soldiers,
Marching off to war,
Some men, some women
Not always knowing
What they were fighting for.

Soldiers,
Young soldiers,
Fighting for freedom,
Some, just young kids
Trying to grow up too soon
Wanting to become men or women.

Soldiers,
Young soldiers,
Miles apart from home,
Not knowing how they got there
And not knowing why-
That decision not their own.

Soldiers,
Young soldiers,
Many of them died,
Those who were lucky-survived
And returned , knowing that they all
Had at least tried.

Soldiers,
Young soldiers,
They answered the battle cry,
For freedom’s sake
They gave themselves-
Even if it meant to die.

Soldiers,
Young soldiers,
Most I never knew,
You gave of yourself
Without even knowing-
And my hat goes off to you.
