Recent education stories

Ardith Ramirez and Baden Luna were recently crowned Norfolk High School’s Homecoming King and Queen. Arleth is the daughter of Amalia Aguilar and Enrique Ramirez, and Baden is the son of Andrea and Joseph Luna.

Lexi Rajaee is a seventh grader at Norfolk Junior High. Students were given a choice of what they wanted to draw, and they could choose the materials they wanted to use to finish their work.

Jaxson Kant, son of Max and Ann Kant, and Macee Goehmann, daughter of the Rev. David and Heidi Goehmann, were recently crowned homecoming king and queen at Lutheran High Northeast.

Notes include area homecoming candidates; recent UNO grads; young artist applications sought.

WAYNE — Caden Ranslem of Newman Grove is among students accepted into the Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP) at Wayne State College.

LINCOLN —EducationQuest Foundation wants to remind students and parents that the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) will open Oct. 1 for students planning to attend college during the 2020-21 academic year.

Norfolk Catholic High School homecoming activities will culminate Friday and Saturday. The football game will be Friday at 7 p.m. against Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur at Memorial Field. Coronation of the 2019 king and queen will be Saturday night, followed by the homecoming dance.

Peggy Belt, a teacher at Norfolk High School, was recently awarded the Nebraska Speech Communication and Theatre Association’s John Thurber Distinguished Teacher Award.

Norfolk High School will celebrate Homecoming this weekend. The football game against Kearney is Friday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m., and coronation of the king and queen will be Saturday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Johnny Carson Theater. The dance will follow from 8 to 11 p.m.

LINCOLN — The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's 299-member Cornhusker Marching Band makes its 2019 debut Aug. 31 at Memorial Stadium with pregame and halftime performances at Nebraska's football season opener against South Alabama.
