'White' holds on to beat 'Red' in seventh annual Northeast Nebraska Football Classic

The ‘White’ held off the ‘Red’ 20-13 in the Seventh annual Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic at Norfolk’s Veterans Memorial Field on Saturday. 

The ‘White’ led 20-0 after three quarters but saw their lead dwindle to seven points after a 46 yard field goal by Pierce’ Devan Roth with :05 remaining.  The ‘Red’ then recovered an onside kick and converted a hook and ladder trick play with Randolph’s Noah Scott being tackled at the ‘White’ ten yard line by Oakland/Craig’s Robby Mayberry as time expired.  The ‘White’ scoring came courtesy of Battle Creek’s Ty Heimes 72 yard touchdown pass to West Point Guardian Angels Central Catholic’s Jadyn Smear, a 49 yard interception return by Riverside’s Ty Martinson, and two Norfolk High Connor Clayton field goals of 27 & 30 yards.  The ‘Red’ scored on Ponca’s Evan Anderson nine yard touchdown run and two Roth field goals of 27 & 46 yards.  Martinsen led the ‘White’ defensively with nine tackles and the interception return for a score.  Clayton also had nine stops and an interception.  Three players had five tackles defensively for the ‘Red’.  The ‘White’ Defensive MVP was Martinsen and West Point-Beemer’s Ben Vander Griend was the Offensive MVP.  Vander Griend caught five balls for 43 yards.  The ‘Red’ Defensive MVP was Allen’s Kyle Smith, who had five tackles.  Their Offensive MVP was Randolph’s Noah Scott, who had 33 carries for 154 yards and two catches for 31 yards.  Scott broke the Classic record for carries and yardage.  The ‘White’, who led at halftime 17-0, now leads the series 4-3.
