Michigan will be involved in the program’s first championship appearance since 1962 as they face Vanderbilt in Game 1 of the College World Series Championship Final at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha this evening at 6:00.
The Wolverines are 49-20 on the season while the Commodores are 57-11. Michigan beat Texas Tech twice and Florida State to reach today while Vanderbilt topped Louisville twice and Mississippi State to qualify. The Wolverines were one strike away from an 0-2 performance in the Big Ten Tournament a month ago and might not have qualified for an NCAA Regional. They earned one of the last four spots in the NCAA Tournament field to earn the program’s first berth in the NCAA Tournament in 35 years. Michigan will be the first Big Ten team to compete for the college baseball national title in 53 seasons. The Commodores have made three of the last six College World Series finals.
