WAYNE - Wayne State College has added a few sports to its athletic program.
Director of Athletics Mike Powicki says they added beach volleyball, an Esports club, and women’s golf.
Powicki says the beach volleyball team will mostly be the same players and coaches that play volleyball in the fall.
He says Esports, which is competitive online gaming will likely be a big hit as it’s growing across the country.
"We're going to take this next year to put together a plan to see if we can create a facility and support it. We feel it will create a opportunity and platform to engage and retain new students to Wayne State College."
Powicki says the women’s golf program will be coming back for the 2020-21 school year as it was scrapped at the end of the 2012-13 school year.
He says they’ll spend this summer to hire a coach and then this coming school year to recruit players before competing the next year.
