NORFOLK - An hours long standoff is concluded after the suspect was found dead.

During a press conference Monday morning, Norfolk Police Captain Mike Bauer, Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk, and Madison County Attorney Joe Smith provided an update on the situation with 47-year-old Cory Dittman of Norfolk.

Dittman barricaded himself inside a Norfolk residence near Koenigstein Avenue after shooting 63-year-old Leone Randy Bussey multiple times Sunday morning.

Bussey drove himself to the Norfolk Police station where he was transferred to Faith Regional Health Services. Joe Smith said he is currently in stable condition.

Smith added Dittman was found deceased after a search team entered the home around midnight.

"Mr. Dittman died of a single gunshot wound. It was self-inflicted. Mr. Dittman died of suicide, it had nothing to do with any officers outside. The time of death would've been earlier that day, not sure when. I understand there were some shots fired inside the house earlier."

Smith said a grand jury will likely be convened next week, and he knows at least one shotgun was recovered from the residence.

It was reported that Bussey and Dittman were acquaintances, and the investigation of the incident is ongoing.
