Norfolk Regional Airport

NORFOLK - The U.S. Department of Transportation has recently announced $840 million in infrastructure grants to 381 airports in 47 states.

The Norfolk Regional Airport is on that list and they will be getting approximately $738,000.

Airport Manager Terri Wachter says they will use the money to overlay the runways and taxiways.

Wachter says their last overlay was in 2010.

"Along with the DOT aeronautics division crack sealing program, our maintenance personnel have been able to maintain our runways and taxiways over the last nine years. Now it's time for complete overlay and we're looking forward to this improvement so we can continue to ensure the safety of all aircraft utilizing the Norfolk Airport."

Wachter says the project will take all summer and include some closures.
