OMAHA - According to Triple A, a record number of people will be traveling this Independence Day holiday.
Public Affairs Director Rose White says nearly 49 million Americans will take trips of 50 miles or more away from home which is the highest level since they began tracking holiday travel 19 years ago.
White says the good economy, among other factors, has a lot to do with the amount of people traveling this year.
"Favorable gas prices, low unemployment, robust consumer spending, and rising disposable incomes have all been contributing factors in why we're seeing an increase in travel right now. It actually has been a banner year and so with each holiday period this year we've seen an increase in travel."
White says if you plan on driving a long distance take your vehicle to a trusted mechanic before your trip.
She encourages you to also check Nebraska 511 for any road closures or roadway construction.
