The only thing hotter than Casey Herbolsheimer's golf game was the weather.

As temperatures soared past 100 degrees, Herbolsheimer carded a 36 during the final nine holes of the city men's golf tournament Sunday at the Norfolk Country Club. Herbolsheimer finished with a score of 111 during the 27-hole tournament.

"It was hot out there," Herbolsheimer said. "There were a lot of good players on the last nine holes. Really, anything could've happened. I was just trying to strike the ball well, keep it in play and give myself a chance at the end."

Brett Shively carded a 112 to earn runner-up honors. Todd Pospisil, the 2007 tournament champion, finished third with a 113.

Herbolsheimer was sitting in a tie for fifth place with Dave Maggart entering the final nine holes of play. Both individuals shot 75s during the first 18 holes of play. They were two strokes back of leader Jason Love, who was sporting a 73. Shooting 74s during the first round were Shively, Kent Kretz and Brian Schulte.

Herbolsheimer was one of four golfers to shoot under 40 during the final nine holes. Pospisil had a 37. Shively and Mike McElhose followed with 38 and 39, respectively.

"This is a tough course, especially with the wind blowing today," Herbolsheimer said. "It was very hot and dry and it played hard. I was glad to just hit the ball well. It was a good day."

Winning the presidential flight was Jeff Jochum, who

shot a 116. John Ballantyne won the first flight with a 79. Steve Farlee and Dennis Sindelar were second and third flight winners, respectively.
