WISNER — Services for Kurt Rathke, 61, Wisner, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wisner. The Rev. Robert Mayes will officiate with burial in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in rural Beemer.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner and will continue on Sunday an hour prior to services at the church..
He died Friday, June 7, 2019, at CHI Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Memorials are suggested to Wisner-Pilger Community Schools Foundation for use in the Industrial Arts program.
Kurt Walden Rathke was born on June 14, 1957, along with his twin brother, Keith Rathke, to Walden and Luella (Siebrandt) Rathke in West Point. He grew up on the family farm south of Wisner.
He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church of rural Beemer and confirmed at Zion St. John Lutheran Church of rural Wisner.
Kurt graduated from Wisner-Pilger High School in 1975. He then attended Northeast Community College and graduated with a degree in building construction in 1977. While in the building construction program, he met many lifelong friends.
He made a career in residential construction, working and passing on his trade to others for 44 years. He was currently the owner of Rathke Construction. Kurt built and remodeled many beautiful homes in Wisner and the surrounding communities.
On Feb. 7, 1987, he was united in marriage to Jill Briardy at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wisner. They were blessed with two children, Kasey and Alexis.
Kurt was a member of Zion St. John Lutheran Church of rural Wisner. For 19 years, Kurt enjoyed playing softball for Wolverton Hay Co.
Kurt loved spending time with his family and dogs. He enjoyed fishing, collecting antique fishing lures, family vacations in Minnesota, woodworking and having drinks with friends. Kurt will be remembered by his loved ones for his work ethic and his comical personality.
Survivors include his spouse, Jill Rathke of Wisner; a son, Kasey and Danielle Rathke of Wisner; a daughter, Alexis and Mychael McClure of Wisner; his mother, Luella Rathke of Norfolk; his brother, Keith Rathke of Wisner; and his dogs, Freckles, Jazz, Cookie, Birdy, Jett and River.
Kurt was preceded in death by his father, Walden Rathke.
A reception will follow the burial at the Cooper Family Community Center in Pilger.
