PIERCE — Services for Katharina Sauer, 88, Norfolk, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierce. The Rev. Marc Lim will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in San Gabriel, Calif.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk with a 7 p.m. vigil.

She died Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at the Homestead Assisted Living in Norfolk.

1931-2019

Born Feb. 11, 1931, in Murga Kreis Tolna, Hungary, she was the daughter of Martin and Katharina Hohmann. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended a Catholic grade school in Hungary to the eighth grade.

On April 29, 1950, she married Anton Sauer Sr. Katharina and Anton lived in Ulm, Germany. They moved to the United States in 1955 to California, where Katharina worked in the electronics industry for almost 20 years. They later moved to Nebraska in 1974. Katharina also worked another 20 years in the electronics industry at Dale Electronics.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierce.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Anton Sauer Sr.; a son, Anton Sauer Jr.; her parents; and a brother, Lukas Hohmann. They all have gone home.

Organist for the funeral will be Celine Fehringer with the congregation singing “Nearer My God To Thee,” “Just As I Am Without One Plea,” “On Angel’s Wings” and “Be Not Afraid.”

CEDAR RAPIDS — Services for Lynn A. Choat, 80, St. Edward, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Brian Ketelsen will officiate with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.

NORFOLK — A celebration of life for August G. Volk, 76, Plainview, will be 5-9 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Kelly’s Country Club west of Norfolk. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644 and the U.S. Army Honors Guard at 5:30 p.m. at Kelly’s Country Club.

PIERCE — Services for Elizabeth A. Scholl, 89, Wayne, are pending at Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Pierce.

WISNER — Services for MaryAnn Jindra, 79, Pilger, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk. Burial will be in the Pilger Cemetery.

HARTINGTON — Columnist and motivational speaker Joan Rossiter Burney, 90, Hartington, died on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Country House in Lincoln.
