MEADOW GROVE — Members of the Tilden-Meadow Grove Community Foundation Fund had good reason to meet recently with representatives of the Meadow Grove village board.

The occasion was the dedication of the new "Welcome to Meadow Grove" community sign.

The landscaped and lighted stone monument was erected by members of the foundation with money raised by donations to it. A large American flag also is part of the overall welcome sign.

Representatives of the foundation said there were many donors who played a part in making the sign a reality. A plaque recognizing major donors is located in the Meadow Grove fire hall.

The Tilden-Meadow Grove Foundation, which is an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation, was established in 2003 as a receptacle for gifts and memorials to be used for community services for the benefit of the two communities.

The foundation has donated more than $200,000 in projects to the Meadow Grove and Tilden communities over the past 10 years. Major projects in the communities have included welcome signs park playgrounds in both communities, Christmas street decorations in Tilden, street flags in Meadow Grove, a downtown infrastructure study for Tilden, and a mural painting on a Meadow Grove community building.

The foundation also has worked on a joint website for the two communities.

“We currently are looking at future projects placing high priority on building our unrestricted endowment fund,” said Jeanne Dittrich, a foundation representative. “An endowment would provide community oriented investors opportunity to donate assets or time to our credible and trustworthy organization in a tax advantaged manner, or possibly in a manner that additionally provides donors an income stream for their lifetimes while fulfilling their charitable desires.”
