A Norfolk man was arrested after police investigated an alleged domestic assault Monday night.

William L. Sukup, 30, of Norfolk was arrested after police responded to the 100 block of West Spruce Avenue regarding a disturbance at 10:54 p.m. Monday, said Capt. Leon Chapman of the Norfolk Police Division.

A woman told police she was holding their 2-year-old son, trying to get him to sleep when Sukup came home and accused her of shaking the boy, Chapman said. Sukup allegedly slapped the woman two times across the face and took the boy from her.

Following further investigation, he will face potential charges of third-degree domestic assault and child abuse/neglect.

He was booked into the Norfolk jail and was transferred to the Madison County jail.
