A Norfolk man was arrested on suspicion of child abuse on a 19-day-old girl.

Justin Gore, 21, of Norfolk was arrested after police received a child abuse report at 11 a.m. Wednesday, said Police Chief Bill Mizner.

A 19-day-old female was reported to have bruising on her buttocks and the side of her face, Mizner said.

A Norfolk police detective and a Department of Health and Human Services child and family support specialist initiated an investigation. They interviewed family members and arranged for an examination of the child at the Northeast Nebraska Child Advocacy Center, Mizner said.  The examination revealed a head injury that would be consistent with an infant being shaken or struck.

Following further investigation,Gore will face a potential charge of child abuse.

He was booked into the Norfolk jail and later transferred to the Madison County jail.

The infant was removed from the custody of the parents and placed with the Nebraska Department of Social Services.
