PIERCE — John E. Malmberg, 59, Norfolk, died Tuesday from injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 98 and a county road in Pierce County.

He was air lifted by Life Net to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City where he died of his injuries.

Malmberg was eastbound on Highway 98 in a Honda Civic and a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Erick W. Weisz, Norfolk, who was southbound on County Road 557 and failed to stop at the intersection, said Pierce County Sheriff Rick Eberhardt.

Weisz was transported by Pierce Rescue to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk with non-life threatening injuries, the sheriff said.

A passenger in the Weisz vehicle, Juan Campos of Norfolk, was treated and released at the scene.

The accident was investigated by the Pierce County sheriff’s department and the Nebraska State Patrol.
