NORFOLK — A man who refused to leave the library who earlier had reportedly behaved odd was arrested late Wednesday afternoon at the Norfolk Public Library.
Capt. Mike Bauer said police were called Wednesday at 5:26 p.m. to the library for a man refusing to leave.
Bauer said it was reported to library staff that the man followed two teenage females in the library and was rubbing his genital area.
When police arrived, they saw staff speaking to a man who they recognized as Chad E. Sholes, 26, Norfolk, near the door.
Bauer said an officer asked Sholes to step outside of the building, and he complied. Once out the building, the officer reportedly detected an alcohol odor coming from him. Sholes was continually digging in his pockets and the officer asked him if he had anything in his pocket that the officer should be concerned about.
Sholes reportedly replied that he did not and began to voluntarily empty his pockets onto the ground, Bauer said.
One of the items from his pocket was a zip-lock bag that contained a crystalline substance. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine, Bauer said.
Sholes was then arrested for possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
