1978 - Columbia Records released Willie Nelson’s hallmark Stardust album

1980 - Crystal Gayle claimed the top spot on the Billboard country chart with “It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye”

1980 - For the first time ever, the top five artists on the country chart were all female: Crystal Gayle was at number one, followed by Dottie West, Debbie Boone, Emmylou Harris and Tammy Wynette

1988 - George Strait’s debut album, Strait Country, went gold, seven years after it came out

1990 - Lorrie Morgan picked up her first gold album for Leave the Light On

2003 - Brad Paisley’s video for “Celebrity” premiered on CMT, with cameos from Jason Alexander, Jim Belushi, Little Jimmy Dickens and William Shatner

2005 - Carrie Underwood performed the disco anthem “MacArthur Park” as a contestant on American Idol

2014 - Country singer Kevin Sharp passed away at his mother’s California home after a long-running and high-profile battle with cancer, he died from complications from surgery. He was 43. Sharp made his debut on the country music scene in 1997 with a cover of R&B artist Tony Rich's single "Nobody Knows", a cover which topped the Billboard country charts for four weeks

2015 - Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean were big winners at the 50th Academy of Country Music Awards
